My husband has been on a hand working tool kick. His notes make a good case for why hand tools are, sometimes easier than power tools. They're more precise too. They just take more time. Little notes like "hand plane can make wood as smooth as glass" and "electric plainer not. He’s written down notes like “Electric fast- hand done just as good- more enjoyable?” The notes then revolve around finding tools.
His notes reveal a struggle. What you can commercially buy as hand tools are not good tools. They are, essentially, knockoffs of the real thing. It's actually difficult to find hand working tools that are of the quality that they use to make.
One of his latest notes that I found underneath his chair is just a list of names: Lie-Nielson, Lee Valley, Adria, Ashley Iles, and Bad Axe. These names turn out to be the companies that are producing fine hand tools.
He also seems to be compiling a list of nessisary and recomended handwood working tools. I'll post them as soon as he settles down and writes the list consistantly :P
